Advancing AI-based Robotics: Innovations and Challenges in the 6G Era

On 4th of July our managing director Thomas Staufenbiel was joining the Berlin 6G Conference 2024 organized by the 6G Platform Germany. Thomas had the honor of participating in the session "Beyond Metal: The Future of Robotics Powered by 6G," organized by Prof. Slawomir Stanczak (Fraunhofer HHI and TU Berlin), with further insights from Prof. Frank Fitzek (TU Dresden), Prof. Christian Wietfeld (TU Dortmund), Michael Epp ( 6G-RIC), Prof. Stefanie Speidel (TU Dresden and DKFZ), and Dr. Frank Hofmann (Bosch Research). The session explored the thrilling potential that arises from merging AI-based robotics with 6G technology.

In our presentation, "Applications for Advanced Network Technologies in Robotics," Thomas introduced our recent progress towards leveraging 6G and OpenRAN networks in Cloud- and Edge-Robotics. In detail, he introduced our contribution to the research projects 6G-Terafactory and CampusDynA. Thomas emphasized the application value and rise of intelligent robotics skills thanks to high performance radio network technologies.

During the subsequent panel discussion, the participants delved deeper into demands, expectations and potential for 6G and how it will enhance networked robotics, opening up a realm of fascinating possibilities and novel applications.
